Turning back to the room, Locke accused Ben of speaking, but Ben denied that he had. Switching on his flashlight and sweeping it around the room, both men appeared shocked when the room began to shake. Objects shook violently and flew across the room, a rocking chair suddenly began to move of its own accord, and the lamp fell to the floor and caught fire.
Ben grabbed a hold of the chair he had addressed before, telling him he'd had his fun, but was thrown back against the far wall by a mysterious force. Looking back across the room, for a split second, Locke saw a mysterious individual sitting there. Moments later, upon fleeing the cabin, both men appeared somewhat shaken.
Locke asked what had just happened, and Ben responded, "That was Jacob. The mysterious eye that frightens Hurley. While trekking across the Island to warn the survivors about the freighter crew, Hurley accidentally fell behind. On wandering alone through the jungle and trying to catch up, Hurley was startled to see the cabin in front of him with a light gleaming from one of the windows. The cabin this time appeared to be in the center of a clearing and not at all where Locke had previously encountered it.
Hurley sees the cabin in the middle of a clearing. Approaching gingerly, and peering in through, Hurley saw " Christian Shephard " sitting in a rocking chair, when suddenly someone else's eye appeared at the window. Hurley screamed, and ran directly away from the building, but suddenly came up short a short distance away when he found himself literally in front of the cabin again.
To all appearances, the cabin had seemingly shifted location. As the front door of the cabin began to slowly open, Hurley shut his eyes, concentrating and telling himself it was not real over and over. Upon reopening his eyes, the cabin was gone.
Hurley did not observe the circle of ash surrounding the cabin. Later, when Locke mentioned that the group was going to the cabin, Hurley seemed to feel that they were going the wrong direction. On attempting to return to the cabin with his group , Locke was unable to locate the building. Strangely, however, he did find the same circle of ash at the same location. Claire in the cabin. The blueprints contained a map of the cabin's location on the Island in addition to detailed specifications on the construction for the building.
Using the map as a guide, Locke was able to successfully return to the cabin with Ben and Hurley. Declining to join him, the two men elected to wait outside while Locke entered on his own. Ben stated that he would not enter the cabin as Locke was now the leader of the Others. Entering, Locke found the same dirty ramshackle interior with the exception of finding " Christian Shephard " sitting in the shadows.
Locke asked, "Are you Jacob? Locke was then perplexed to discover Claire also sitting nearby, smiling calmly. On asking what she was doing there, Claire told Locke not to worry, that she was here with "Christian". Stack Overflow for Teams — Collaborate and share knowledge with a private group. Improve this answer. Tablemaker Tablemaker Any idea what the Man in Black possibly could have wanted to achieve in this scene with his melodramatic appearance?
Again, something that is left to the viewer's thoughts, rather than explained outright. When Hurley visits the cabin, the man in the rocking chair Christian and the man with "the eye" are clearly two different people.
Christian stays seated away from the window, and the other man is near the window and pops his head up to scare Hurley. I think the first time they visit it the circle is unbroken. If MIB can't pass how is he trapped in the cabin if he's all over the island earlier than that? Is it just a plothole or was he never there to begin with? Yup Joked can really be an ass at times, a kick ass, hilarious ass, but an ass none the less.
JokedUp posted LoyalToTheGame posted I don't agree that there was an implication that it was always broken. From a cinematic and storytelling POV, I feel like having a shot of it being unbroken the prior two times it was visited and then the third time showing it broken is saying "hey look viewers it's broken now ;- ".
I forgot to add this but there's also the possibility the ring was to keep him out, but I can't remember of that makes any sense either. User Info: megamanzero People should really learn to stop thinking about this so hard.
The writers made everything up as the show went along, you're never going to find an explanation for everything because nothing about it makes sense. There was direct implication - we see the group with Locke's body go to the ash and they see that the ash is broken and say " no one has been here for a long long time " Ben and Richard both acknowledged that Jacob was never at the cabin Ben admitted to lying and it was part of the reason he killed Jacob He resented that Jacob wouldn't talk to him.
Ben and Locke approached the cabin from the barracks - the other group from the beach The cabin ash was always broken but no one visited it because they "feared" the monster. Ben's group never left the barracks to inspect the circle. Unless you're trolling I don't know what else to say.
We see and learn then that the ash keeps the monster out. It was revealed to us that the monster was at the cabin all along
