Distraught, the various family members leave the dinner table, though Arthur stops Steve with a small gesture to reassure him that he will be a great Santa Claus. However, Steve rejects Arthur's overture, while at the same time their father shares his doubts with his wife about his self-identity if he retires. Meanwhile, an elf named Bryony finds the present - a wrapped bicycle that has not yet been delivered. She alerts Steve and his elf-assistant to the problem. Overhearing, Arthur is alarmed to recognize the present as a gift for a little girl named Gwen who had written Santa about her wish.
Arthur alerts his father Santa who doesn't know how to handle the situation. Steve argues that one missed present out of the billions of deliveries that night is a minimal error and since sunrise is in two hours with the high-tech sled needing an overhaul, correcting that oversight will have to wait a few days.
The distraught Arthur is stopped by his grandfather, who proposes delivering the gift with his old wooden sleigh named Evie and the great-grandchildren of his old reindeer which were called Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, John, Bambi, "You with the white ear", "And You, and you". Together, Grand-Santa, Arthur, the reindeer and Bryony, who had stowed away, embark on a journey to deliver the present.
They get lost and land in danger including being mistaken for aliens, thus causing an international military incident and losing reindeer in the various mishaps. It is believed that Nicholas was born sometime around A. Is Arthur Christmas stop motion? Needless to say, Arthur and Grandsanta team up to cause a lot of mischief and restore the meaning of Christmas to the Claus family. The fast paced CG animated film is a big departure for Aardman, best known for their stop-motion classics starring meek plasticine sheep and a very clever dog.
Who plays Steve in Arthur Christmas? Hugh Laurie. Who voices Gwen in Arthur Christmas? Violence: Lions attack and threaten to eat characters.
Who wrote Arthur Christmas? Sarah Smith Peter Baynham. What Christmas films are there? It's a great concept. From sleigh and reindeers to a flying ship. But the whole story belongs to Santa's son, Arthur. His heart really shines the very small plot and makes it bigger. It's disappointing in the second act though. It relies to nothing but throwing all the gags they could give. GrandSanta keeps going to the wrong way and do something crazy all around the world.
It feels mediocre and extraneous. But it can be pretty fun though. The third act saves most of the film. Bringing back the true heart and spirit of Christmas. The characters are fun. No wonder, this is Aardman and they always have great character development. The CGI is really solid. It's not clay animation nor a CGI animation that tries to look like stop motion. It's just solid. The score keeps the spirits up. The performances were great. James McAvoy makes Arthur a one lovable dork.
We loved it. He has the best gags. Grandsanta's loyalty to his generation and his crazy antics. The rest of the cast are also fun. Saddest thing about Aardman, most of their movies besides of Chicken Rush and Wallace and Gromit ends up being forgettable even though they are pretty good and imaginative. And it looks like Arthur Christmas didn't do well in the box office. Well, I strongly recommend Arthur Christmas this Holiday. It's a perfect Christmas movie to watch this year. These complex operations are micromanaged by Santa's oldest son Steve and his obsequious elfin assistant Peter among thousands of more elves at mission control underneath the North Pole, while Steve's clumsy and panophobic younger brother Arthur answers the letters to Santa.
During a delivery operation, when a child wakes up and almost sees Santa, a Christmas elf back in the S-1 inadvertently presses a button, causing a present to fall off a conveyor and go unnoticed.
Having completed his 70th mission, Santa is portrayed as far past his prime and whose role in field operations now is largely symbolic. Nonetheless, he is held in high esteem, and delivers a congratulatory speech to the enraptured elves. Much to Steve's frustration, who has long anticipated succeeding his father, Santa announces he looks forward to his 71st.
During their family Christmas dinner, Arthur's suggestion for the family to play a board game degenerates into a petty quarrel between Santa and Steve, while Grand-Santa, bored by retirement, resentfully criticizes their over-modernization.
Distraught, the various family members leave the dinner table. When Arthur humbly compliments Steve that he believes he will be a great Santa Claus, Steve rudely dismisses Arthur's overture. Later, their father shares with Mrs. Claus his grave doubts about his self-identity should he retire.
