A side note to challenge your thinking. If God is Omnipresent means everywhere at once and at the same time how far are you willing to believe His presences goes? If God is Omnipotent means all-powerful how much do you think He is powering things from you to the universe?
If God is Omniscient means knowing all things how deep is His connection of data to all things goes in uploading and downloading? Alright, back to the living soul and the quickening spirit. Just because you are born again does not mean your living soul is completely and instantly a mature spiritual adult in Jesus Christ. Back to Nicodemus sitting with Jesus by the camp fire at night. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit Jn. The second birth is free and flowing as it pleases. Man cannot grab it, control it, and dictate its future. If the wind chooses to blow your way with the revealing eyesight of truth count it as blessing beyond words for the born again quickening spirit of life.
It is hard for our living soul to step outside the so-called safe receptors eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and skin of its fleshly body. Jesus created another body for us to place our living soul.
The born again of water and spirit places our living soul inside the body of Jesus for the quickening Spirit to have fellowship and guidance with us. To get our living soul inside the safe refuge of the body of Jesus Christ is to be born of water and His quickening spirit.
If your living soul is tired of things of your flesh you can renounce and repent of your sins turning your back on them. Remember the issues of the living soul with the tongue no man can tame. Since it's figurative what does it mean? Here is a post I posted in another thread addressing this passage. Have you considered that this could be symbolic. The book of Revelation is full of symbols. Is Jesus a lamb with 7 eyes? Do death and Hades really ride on horses? It seems that a third of the stars is symbolic.

So, it's not a stretch to see the souls under the alter as symbolism too. If it is symbolism what does it mean.
Well, we're told that these souls are Martyrs. Where are they found? Under the Alter. Is that a coincidence? Obviously not. Martyrs are those who are sacrificed for God. According to the Law of Moses where were the sacrifices done, at the Altar. What happened at the alter? The sacrifices went on day, after day, after day, for years. After the sacrifice the blood that was left over was poured out a the base of the alter. Where did that blood go?
It went into the ground beneath the alter. Where are those souls? Beneath the Altar. The passages says the souls under the altar spoke. Where is the soul? The passages literally reads, "For the soul of the flesh is in the blood. What does it mean that the martyrs, those who died for God, are seen as under the altar? The blood is under the Alter and the soul is in the blood. So, the soul or blood cries out from the ground under the altar.
Where else do we see that? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper? Is able alive or dead? Here we have the voice of his blood crying out. Does blood speak or is this symbolic? The passage from David is referring to Christ.
